INFORMATION FOR BUYERS
Thank you for surfing through our web site. If you have any questions please
contact myself (Tom Collins) at the E mail address wireprep@ctwireprep.com or phone/fax
at the phone numbers above.
I have put together some frequently asked questions below that Buyers ask.
Is it more cost effective to sub contract your wire needs out or build it inside your
facility?
Answer:It depends entirely on one other question you must ask. Is my company able to build what we need to the quality level we require for the same cost or less than sub contracting. This is a two part question that requires some education about wire processing.
1. EDUCATION (CRASH COURSE BASED ON EXPERIENCE)In my 20 years of wire processing experience I have not found any company that processes its
wire as cost effectively as a quality dedicated wire processor. I have only met one company
that came close to the quality level, but not efficiency. You may find this hard to believe
but indeed it is.
2. As for the cost of processing wire, you must take into account capitol costs
of machinery, cost of space for this machinery and any space for wire assemblies including
utility overhead costs and then actual labour costs. There are also the hidden costs based
on the method of manufacture. An example of this is as follows... Company XYZ needs 1000
simple lead assemblies per month that are 6 inches long with a ring terminal at each end.
They can get a handtool for 200 dollars, buy a spool of wire and loose piece terminals and
have a worker hand cut and crimp the wires. Six months to a year later the worker has a very
good chance of getting carpotunnel in the wrist. Now you must factor in the hidden cost of
Compensation claims. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard the above senario....
The hidden cost of quality or lack of is something that almost every company that is in
another business and trying to do their own wire processing can't see up front.
YOUR COMPANY IS AN EXPERT IN WHAT IT IS YOU MANUFACTURE. THEREFORE DO WHAT YOU DO BEST AND CONTRACT OUT THE REST. YOUR COMPANY WILL BE LIKE CREAM, AND RISE TO THE TOP!
What do you require to quote?
Answer: If you have wire requirements and would like to give us a try, the first thing we will
need is a drawing or built sample. If you don't have either because it is in the
preliminary stages of design, then your probably in better shape than you know! Getting
us involved in the design stages is an advantage for you because we can steer you in
the right direction so you won't have to pay for tooling charges for dies that C-T has
in house.
How will volume effect my costs?
Answer: Tooling becomes a very small issue when quantity is approaching 50K- 100K and can be
built into the cost of your product over time.
How many wires/harnesses or sub assemblies you require per year, will effect cost
because quite often terminal companies will give quantity discounts for yearly usage.
What about my present raw material suppliers?
Answer: If you have any special pricing set up with wire mills or terminal companies these are
usually able to be extended to C-T. This is particularily important if you have been
building your own wire products in your factory and you like your parts suppliers, but want
to sub contract the building out of your wire products, and still want them to supply C-T.
